Fresh in is the beta release of the PS Audio BHK Signature Preamplifier, and a pretty thing it is. The preamplifier uses the same case as other PS Audio units including the DirectStream DAC, keeping case design costs down while providing a coherent design language among PS Audio components.
Packaging is sturdy and up to the task, with the preamplifier suspended in plastic in a cardboard framework. Items in the box include:
- Welcome letter
- User Manual
- White Gloves (that shiny top shows everything!)
- Remote Control with two AAA batteries
- Generic Power Cable
The Bascom H King (hence BHK) design features a tube input stage with two pre-installed 12AU7 dual-triode vacuum tubes. Glassheads note: you can roll them, too. Two screws at the top of the case give easy access. No need to crack open the case if you simply want to hear them with the tubes the designer intended. The remote-controlled preamplifier would naturally mate with the BHK Signature 250 stereo or BHK Signature 300 mono amplifiers (also in the house). Oh, and that’s a feature-rich remote control – it also controls the PS Audio DACs, phono preamplifiers and transports.
The casework is marked “Engineered and Assembled in Boulder, Colorado, USA.” The box states “Manufactured in the USA.” Whether it meets the FTC standard for “Made in USA” or “Assembled in USA” will need to be confirmed by PS Audio.
