PS Audio – Boulder, CO – Accessories Amplifiers Cables Computer Audio Digital Headphones Integrated Amplifiers Power Preamplifiers
PS Audio was founded in 1973 by Paul McGowan and Stan Warren, a rock ‘n’roll radio DJ and a waterbed salesman, respectively.
Their first product was a phono preamp designed by ear to provide better-sounding phono playback than that provided by phono stages of the receivers and integrated amps that were prevalent in that period.
With products assembled at the McGowan kitchen table and sold for $59.95 with a money-back guarantee in tiny classified ads in the back of Audio magazine, the beginnings of PS Audio were about as humble as they could be. In the 43 years since, the company has introduced a string of landmark products including the first stand-alone DAC and the first practical power regenerator and developed a worldwide following based upon leading-edge performance, high value, and unsurpassed customer service.
Current PS Audio products include the groundbreaking DirectStream DAC designed by Ted Smith, winner of Digital Product of the Year awards from Stereophile, The Absolute Sound, HiFi+, and dozens of other magazines and websites worldwide. The BHK Signature amplifiers and preamp, designed by legendary designer Bascom H. King, have also won numerous awards and can be found in the home systems of many well-known reviewers.
The upcoming DirectStream Memory Player will provide CD playback almost indistinguishable from hi-res formats and will break new ground by outputting the raw DSD stream of SACDs to the DirectStream and DSJ (DirectStream Junior) DACs. For the first time, SACDs can be heard unfettered by protective chips or inferior decoding.
PS Audio is still led by Paul McGowan and owned by the McGowan family, and continues to grow, year after year. Products are proudly designed in the same Boulder , Colorado, facility where all premier PS products are built. All PS products are available directly from the factory with a 30-day money-back guarantee—just as they were at the company’s beginning in 1973.
